Most of the coding problems experienced on Safari are created on the developer's end - either focusing on bringing content to the majority of the market (Internet Explorer on PC) at the expense of other browsers, or exhibiting an Apple bias, e.g. where video works on Firefox, but not Safari - Yahoo is a good example. Best solution is to write the specific developer. IE 6 for Mac won't happen. Microsoft decided shortly after Safari's introduction to no longer support further development of it. I appreciate the frustration. I find value in using both Safari and Firefox, the latter when Safari is unable to use specific content for reasons outlined above. Yet, it would be nice to be able to stick to one browser.
But Yahoo video works in Shiira, and that's based on Apple's WebKit/Core engine - strange isn't it?
But Yahoo video works in Shiira I didn't know that. Strange indeed. Like to hear from someone familiar with the coding dynamics of Apple's webkit/core engine.
Write to Yahoo and tell them to support Safari with their upcoming web page changes!
I too cannot view videos from Yahoo News using Safari as my browser. Here is their reply: Hello, Thank you for writing to Yahoo! News. While Yahoo! News and Weather does not officially support Macintosh currently, we have been informed that Mac users, such as yourself, have been able to view video content on Yahoo! News and Weather successfully at times using Microsoft Windows Media Player. However, until Mac platform is fully supported by Yahoo! News and Weather(we are working on this as we speak) you may experience unexpected issues with viewing the videos. Rest assured that our engineering team is working furiously to get this feature up and running on Mac. Look for updates on News site informing you of its full supportability in the coming months! Regards, Ronald I hope this is not the same Ronald who is affiliated with McDonalds. If it is, Yahoo may take longer to complete this conversion to Safari project than we think. 😉
I went to these support pages and this subject was EXACTLY my question. I find that Safari crashes or I have to force quite it because it doesn't respond--which happend 5 times in the last few hours (even after closing and restarting app and computer). The little color wheel just goes and goes and goes and.... sometimes 5 minutes later it then crashes. This happens at odd times but often when opening all sorts of video formats. So I probably moving to FireFox reluctantly.
Actually, it's not working now - could I have been hallucinating?
Do you have some kind of adblocker running that might have a badly configured wildcard entry? (Like Saft) MacLemon
