PAHs are considered hazardous contaminants because of their mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, and toxicity. Long-term exposure to PAHs can cause a series of health problems, including endocrine disruption, premature birth, developmental and neurological disorders, asthma, skin allergies, and abnormalities in the reproductive system.
