Tirosint is a thyroid drug used to replace hormones in adults and pediatric patients 6 years and older with hypothyroidism, as well as pituitary thyrotropin (TSH) suppression. It is administered as a single daily oral dose, on an empty stomach, one-half to one hour before breakfast, and should not be used for the treatment of obesity or weight loss. 1 It is important to follow the instructions on the packaging insert and to follow the recommended dosage instructions, as larger doses may produce serious or even life threatening manifestations of toxicity. 1 TIROSINT® (levothyroxine sodium) capsules is meant to replace the hormone to treat a condition called hypothyroidism. 2 Tirosint is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of Hypothyroidism and Myxedema Coma. 3 It is not known if Tirosint is safe and effective in children younger than 1 month of age. 3
