Cold urticaria is a medical condition in which people develop hives (welts on their skin that often itch) when exposed to the cold. 1 Symptoms of cold urticaria can range from minor to severe reactions. 2 It is also associated with other conditions such as cryoglobulinemia, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, lymphosarcoma, and chickenpox (varicella). 3 People with cold urticaria may also experience Raynaud’s disease, a condition that affects the blood vessels of the fingers and toes after exposure to cold. 4
