Form 1095-A is an IRS tax form that reports the premium tax credit that members received in advance from the health insurance marketplace. It is available in the HealthCare.gov account as soon as mid-January and must be received by mail no later than mid-February. It also provides information about the amount of advanced premium tax credit (APTC) that was paid during the year to the health plan in order to reduce the monthly premium, which is reported to the IRS.
The Premium Tax Credit is offered to help offset the costs of health coverage and can be used to reduce taxes when filing the return at tax time or to reduce insurance premiums in advance when paying the insurance premiums.
