By now you’ve probably heard (or read the viral post) Google search is dying. And (adding) @Reddit (to any search query) is the new black. At Neeva, we agree that better results come from real discussions with honest opinions found on community forums. However, we don’t think you should have to choose between classic search results and results that only show discussion on community forums. Instead, we are using the zeitgeist on forums and deeply integrating those discussions to make your search results better.
Starting today, when you search on Neeva, you will see “Quicklinks” and deeper discussions in community forums such as Reddit and HackerNews, as well as useful articles with further information to augment your results and support your search journey.
Search engines have always used links (anchor text) from other high quality web pages as a strong signal for ranking. These links can provide rich context and help you better understand whether or not you should trust a source in your search results. However, most search engines can’t (because they don’t have their own index and serving systems) or won’t show you this type of information.
We decided this needs to change.
Neeva’s own independent indexing and serving system (called Koala 🐨) makes it easy to invert and index all the web links that we have crawled. With Koala, we can efficiently search for other pages, such as Reddit, that link out to any result on the Neeva search results page.
We are excited to get this feature off the ground and continue to improve the search experience. As we build in the open and add other useful community forums, we welcome any user feedback to make it even better. Follow us on twitter @neeva or email us at feedback@neeva.co
