At Neeva, we’ve been using the power of AI to transform a search engine into an answer engine. While LLMs and AI can produce magical results, they aren’t always perfect, and human input remains a critical component to building the best search experience on the Web. Today, we are launching the first version of our community feedback tool to further improve NeevaAI.
We released NeevaAI at the beginning of this year to millions of happy users. After providing answers to approximately a gazillion queries, Neeva has used AI to answer more than 70% of all searches. Neeva users have described NeevaAI answers to be like bespoke Wikipedia entries for any search, complete with informative summaries, citations, and images. With NeevaAI, you’ve seen AI-generated results that are not only high quality and accurate, but also give credit to content sources.
We power NeevaAI with retrieval augmented generation. While this technique is essential for providing referenceable real-time AI aka the latest great answers, it also poses some challenges. Over the years, search engines have been optimized to serve diverse intents. But when pulling together an AI-assisted answer, sometimes edge cases lead to frankenanswers where concepts are mixed together. We've seen some hilarious results when different people are mixed up, and others less fortunate. Of course, can lead to less accurate results for specific queries.
To address this challenge, NeevaAI added a layer on top of the search engine that disambiguates topics and picks the best web pages, among other things. This layer is called the "AI quality layer," similar to the search quality layer that modern search engines use.
Even with the most advanced machine learning techniques, we know that human input is an essential component to ensure quality.
Starting today, when you use NeevaAI, you can send feedback on whether an answer is useful or not with the option to add more context. While the community feedback tool is starting with what NeevaAI should not do, options to include important pages, items from these pages, and more will be added soon.
